GRAND FINAL GAME 2 VS TIGERS
Wednesday, 17 September 2008

  GAME 2 VS TIGERS

Blackhawks Premiers 2008In Game 2 of the series, played on Sunday night, the Hawks took on a Tigers team that included several players they were missing from Game 1.  The Hawks line up was unchanged and started the game poorly, going behind 1 - 0 when Mitch Jones scored on a power play with 5.25 left, but a goal late in the 1st period by Andrew Taylor (25) with help from Scott Kelly (51) and Michael Beaton (12) got the sides even with just 27 seconds left.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the 2nd, with a power play chance each, the Tigers only drawing one save out of Dahlen Phillips (44) for the entire period while at the other end Muir only faced the puck six times.

The 3rd period remained locked with the Tigers defending a five on 3 for 30 seconds early in the frame.  The Hawks managed to trouble Muir, drawing saves from him and keeping the pressure on until Dereck Hales (9) netted the winner with 6.28 to go, assisted by Jack McCoy (76).  Beaton netted the empty netter with 8 seconds left to seal the deal and "Harry was coming home" with his new mate Russ.

An excellent defensive game by all players, who were able to take away the Tigers scoring opportunities late in the game, holding them to a total of just 7 shots.  The Hawks were able to test Muir with 23 shots and took a deserved win.

IHV PLAYOFFS 2008
Wednesday, 03 September 2008

This week sees the commencement of the 2008 IHV Finals Series and the Blackhawks will feature in all three senior grades.  With the re-structure of the IHV competition in 2008, there are no junior clubs competing as Blackhawks.  The three competing senior sides have battled through the season and obtained excellent results right to the last games.

The Blackhawks and the Braves are the only teams in the IHV comp that is fielding a team in each final series.  The Braves are the defending champs in the A's and have a bit of work ahead of them after finishing in 3rd position.

The Demons took home the title in the Reserve grade last year and this season has scraped into the finals in 4th position.  Always a strong finals performer, they will need to bypass our Hawks to get close to going back to back.

The Premier C grade was re-invented this season and created a competitive avenue for plenty of players.  In its previous incarnation as a recreation level in 2006, the Hawks took out the title.
